Got a data sharing SIM for your My Plan Plus Optus plan and need to activate it? It’s pretty simple.
You will need:
- Your phone number: the number of the My Plan Plus plan to which the data SIM is connected.
- Your order number: this is called the SOS Order No. It would have been either given to you at the point of sale, or included on a sheet of paper with delivery. It is an 8-digit number.
- The SIM card number: This is written on the SIM card itself and on the SIM card’s packaging. It’s on the credit card-sized piece of plastic from which your SIM pops out. It is located underneath the barcode and above “Your SIM card no.”
- The internet and/or a working phone: you will need to activate the SIM through one of these channels
A bunch of time: the SIM should activate itself within 1-2 business days.
Doing it over the internet requires you to go to Optus.com.au/activatesim. Follow the prompts as you would for a regular SIM card. When asked to put in a phone number, use the number of the My Plan Plus plan from with which it will be sharing data.
If you’d prefer to call, or if your web experience was less than successful, dial 1300 300 562. When prompted press 1, then enter either your phone number or your SOS Order number, then hit 2 (setting up your features) and then press 1 (features). Do not press 2 for the final stage (replacing your SIM), even though that may seem like the more obvious option.
You can also call 1399 082 820 and follow similar steps.
Now it’s time to wait
After you’ve activated the SIM there’ll be a wait of 15 minutes to 4 hours. It’s usually the former. Your device will need to be reset to get reception.
If your SIM activates, but then stops working, wait the full 4 hours before chasing it up. It may simply be part of the initial setup process.
