If you're on an Optus 24-month contract worth $40 per month or more (excluding handset fees), you'll now get free access to an all National Geographic app. On top of live feeds of the National Geographic and Nat Geo Wild TV channels, the app is home to a host of on-demand content including:
- Nearly 5,000 long and short form videos, including over 1,500 TV show episodes
- Over 28,000 photos and galleries by some of National Geographic’s leading photographers
- National Geographic magazine editions starting from January 2009 plus the 1888 full first edition
- Local and international articles published online from January 2014
Optus says the content available on-demand will continue to grow over time.
After you download the National Geographic app for you iPhone or Android device, you'll be asked to put in your Optus mobile number. You'll be a sent a verification code that will then activate the app.
Optus customers with access to the National Geographic app are able to use it data-free.
Optus is the first in a series of global partners to launch the app, and Optus subscribers will have exclusive access for its first 18 months of availability (at least, within Australia).
The National Geographic app is another feather in Optus' cap when it comes to entertainment offerings, which also includes a partnership with the English Premier League and a partnership with Cricket Australia.
