iiNet is getting in early, becoming one of Australia’s first major broadband providers to launch an NBN TV ad campaign. Also, they’re pretty funny. Given that these ads are airing while Australia is still in the early rounds of the Football World Cup, appealing to a sense of national pride is probably a good angle.
Of course, if you’re from one of the countries Australia’s #2 broadband provider is poking fun at then you may disagree, but it all seems to be in the spirit of friendly rivalry. And, to be fair, iiNet kind of has a point.
The driving premise behind the ads is that average broadband speeds Down Under aren’t too crash hot compared to some unexpected countries like Romania and Slovakia. These aren't names that spring to mind as quickly as South Korea, Japan or The Netherlands when one thinks of fast broadband. According to a study on Forbes' website, Australia isn't even in the top 10. Ask Bloomberg and we're not even top 20 material.
You view the ads online, or keep an eye out for them on TV.
