The telco is currently offering customers a 128GB iPhone 7 or 7 Plus for the price of 32GB, on both its My Plan Flex and My Plan Plus installment options. My Plan Plus customers can take home the 128GB iPhone 7 from $76 per month on the 1GB plan (up to $160 per month on the premium $160 per month, 100GB option), or lease the device through My Plan Flex.
Wanting to supersize your smartphone with the iPhone 7 Plus? Prices start from $90 per month on Optus’ 1GB My Plan Plus, and from $80 monthly to lease on the 1GB My Plan Flex option.
Plan Plus vs. Plan Flex: what's the difference?
If you decide to pay off your phone through My Plan Plus, you’ll own your handset outright after 24 months of repayments (and save $150 off the price of both the 128GB iPhone 7 and 7 Plus). You will, however, need to commit to a two-year contract and payment plan.
Customers who opt for My Plan Flex will lease their new iPhone, again over 24 months. Generally, you’ll pay about $10 less per month to lease a device, and you’ll also be given the option to upgrade for $99 after twelve months of payments.
You can swap your phone for a newer handset, or continue to lease for a further year before either handing it back, continuing to lease for another six months, or making an offer to purchase your iPhone for good.
The downside to leasing is that you won’t technically own your phone unless you decide to pay extra after two years of lease payments. While it may save you cash month-to-month, it’s not necessarily the best option: more information on the pros and cons of Optus’ leasing plans can be found here.
Bonus data + more
Whether you lease or pay off your iPhone, you’ll also receive 3GB or 5GB of bonus data each month when you select the $85 or $100 My Plan options. My Plan Plus customers get a free 3GB monthly boost on the $85 plan - or 5GB on the $100 option - for their life of their plan if they sign up before June 4, while My Plan Flex leasers will enjoy an extra 5GB each month on both the $85 and $100 plans, with no sign-up cut-off yet specified.
