OVO Mobile today added another data-free media streaming feather to its already brimming cap, with Austereo radio now available in the telco’s OVOPlay app.
Moving for the first time away from sports content, this addition to the OVO app gives customers access to 58 stations in the Austereo network, including Triple M, 2Day FM and FOX FM.
The radio content is streamed over the web to phones and tablets, but when played through the OVOPlay add, the data used is not counted against the customer’s monthly data inclusions.
Unlimited access to the OVOPlay app is included with all OVO prepaid phone plans, starting from $9.95 per month.
The stream dream
OVO’s streaming media app is the key feature that separates this telco from its numerous low-cost competitors. Most of the smaller SIM only providers focus entirely on how cheaply they can offer the basic phone plan inclusions, and while OVO remains competitive, it also proves that the smaller telcos can include compelling extras in their plans.
OVO isn’t alone in offering data-free media streaming though. Telstra and Boost Mobile customers stream Apple Music free from data charges, while Optus and Virgin Mobile subscribers have unmetered access to Spotify, Google Play Music, I Heart Radio, and more.
