Pandora is dead


Sad news for Australian Pandora users: the music streaming service is set to close its Aussie door at the end of this month.

While the company originally announced its plans to end operations in Australia and New Zealand in June of this year, the statement didn't include a specific end date. Now, however, Pandora has informed users via email that it will cut off Antipodean subscribers on July 31.

If you're a casual Pandora listener without a paid subscription, you'll simply lose access to the service at the end of the month. Premium paying customers will also be unable to access Pandora from July 31, and will have their current subscription automatically cancelled by the company. 

Subscribers with time left on their monthly plan will receive a pro-rated refund, provided the service was purchased via iTunes or Google Play. However, if you signed up for premium services through Pandora's website, you should contact the company directly to sort out the correct refund amount.

Pandora's decision to end Australian operations comes after a dramatic re-structure that will see the service focus exclusively on the US market. According to AdNews, around 1.2 million Australians are regular Pandora users, although major rival Spotify is still the most popular local choice for music fans. 

It's a definite bummer for lovers of the streaming platform, but it's not all bad: there's still several great options for online music available to Australians.
