The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8” is available from Telstra starting today both online and in-stores. You can grab it on four plans with no device repayments, starting from $45 per month for 1GB of data and going up to $115 per month with 15GB of data.
The Tab 3 8.0 is currently available on four plans:
- The ‘S’ plan is $45 per month. It offers 1GB of data
- The ‘M’ plan is $55 per month. It offers 4GB of data ($13.75 per GB)
- The ‘L’ plan is $70 per month. It offers 8GB of data ($8.75 per GB).
- The ‘XL’ plan is $115 per month. It offers 15GB of data ($7.66 per GB)
In terms of value for data, the L and XL plans are pretty much identical, so make your decision based on what you think you’ll need, rather than how good a deal it is. If you can afford the extra $10 per month, we definitely recommend the M plan over the S plan. There’s a big difference in what you get for what you pay.
The tablet itself is a mid-range device. It has an 8 inch 1280 x 800 display which should give it around 189 pixels per inch (ppi). Compare that to the 1024 x 768 resolution of the similarly-priced original iPad mini (163ppi) you get 26ppi more, but they’re essentially comparable.
The Tab 3 8.0 has satisfactory battery life, offering around 7 hours of video playback. It also has a dual-core 1.5GHz CPU, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage and a MicroSD slot for expanding storage up to a further 64GB.
The rear camera is a 5MP shooter and the front is 1.3MP. It weighs just 319g, runs Android 4.2.2 and is only available in White.
Telstra’s Tab 3 8.0 is the cellular + WiFi model, meaning that it works over Telstra’s 4G LTE and NextG/3G networks.
